Court denies bail to UNC leaders

The court of chief judicial magistrate, Imphal East denied bail to the UNC president Gaidon Kamei and his information secretary Shangkhil Stephen and remanded eleven days in police custody.
The UNC duo were today produced before the court of CJM, A. Noutuneshwari with a prayer for fifteen days judicial custody remand till January 16. The defense council prayed to grant bail by stating that the accused are innocent denying the charge on them creating violence along the National Highways during the UNC’s economic blockade.
However, the court ruled out the prayer and remanded both the accused for 15 days in judicial custody.
A formal arrest prayer was sought by the Tadubi police under FIR no. 05(11) 2016 under various section of IPC. The court dispensed the judicial period and remanded them in police custody till January 11.
