Four political parties urge to end the blockade

Following the announcement of the date of election poll the Manipur Democratic People Forum, Janata Dal (S), Aam Adami party and Janata Dal (U) have appealed the BJP government at the centre to take up measures to an end to the United Naga Council’s economic blockade that has crossed 64 days.
Moirangthem Tombi, Chairman of election board committee Janata Dal (U) addressing the reporters at Manipur Press Club in Imphal, said the Prime minister, home minister and the interlocutor of the peace talk between NSCN-IM and the government of India to urge the NSCN-IM to stop the ongoing economic blockade as UNC is the pressure group the outfit. If the blockade continues the election will not be able to conduct smoothly, added Tombi.
Tombi also appealed the BJP government at the centre and the Congress government in the state to stop blame game over the blockade. The demand of the UNC is unreasonable, said Tombi.
The election commission of India today announced the date of polling of the state assembly election which would be conducted in two phases. Accordingly the first phase of polling would be conducted for 38 assembly constituencies on March 4 and second phase of polling would be conducted on March 8 for the remaining constituencies. The first phase of polling includes the constituencies in Imphal West and Imphal East districts.
