Chief Secretary urges publishers to afford suitable wage

News publishers in the state should regard the efforts of media persons and afford suitable wages to them, said chief secretary Oinam Nabakishore Singh on the 42nd Foundation of the Manipur Press Club which was held today.

Nabakishore Singh said because of the effort of the journalist the publisher are able to run their business successfully and the advertisements come along with the reports of the journalists. The publishers need to provide appropriate wage, he added.

He said the standard of journalism is developing both in print and electronic media. He appealed to media fraternity to give more emphasis in subject specialization like investigative journalism. He urged concerned people to develop Smart Phone Apps that will enable users to keep themselves informed with local news.

The foundation day function held at Manipur Press Club in Imphal was also attended by commissioner, information K. Radhakumar, Director General of Police L.M. Khaute.

Commissioner of Information Shri K. Radhakumar said the need of the hour is objective assessment in reporting. He also appreciated the role of media in the society.

L.M Khaute said the relation between Police and media persons is improving. He said both Police and media work together for the society. The Police Department is committed for the welfare and security of media persons in Manipur, he added.

Veteran journalists who played a pivotal role in establishment of the Press Club were warmly felicitated. Journalists who took part in the recently concluded 8th NE Media Sports festival, Guwahati and who bagged overall team champion with five gold and three silver medals were also felicitated for bringing laurel.

Manipur Press Club was established on this day i.e, 6th January. 1975.
