MPP Chief slams police

President of Manipur People’s Party, N. Sovakiran has slam the police for cheating to arrest him over firing by his escort to defend him from the tussle between his election supporters and his supporters of his BJP opponent Th. Radheshyam.

Sovakiran talking to the media person at the MPP office in Imphal said he went to the Thoubal police station as invited to compromise over the incident that took place on January 4. “However as I reached the police station I was told that I am under arrest. I condemn the police for apprehending me on the charge of firing” said the MPP president. He appealed the police not to make it happen to others in future.

According to Sovakiran MPP volunteers were on its drive against feasting in connection to the forthcoming election as it is against the election code of conduct.

He said, “Having got the information of some people with guns I personally rushed at the spot where there was a fight at Ukhongshang of Heirok in Thoubal district. One of my escort fired blank to protect me as well as to disperse the fighting groups. After the incident the police came to me to invite for conciliation.”

Sovakiran was produced at the court in Thoubal the same day and the court remanded him for four days police custody. However following a prayer for bail the court permitted him out on bail yesterday. He was welcomed at the party office today.
