NSCN-IM attack kills one

One killed and three injured when suspected NSCN IM cadres attacked trucks ferrying essential commodities which were coming from Jiribam with security escort at Lukhambi village along the national highway 37.

Sources say heavily armed cadres opened indiscriminate firing on the security convoy of state police and CRPF personnel who were escorting loaded trucks. The security team retaliated resulting in a heavy gunfight that lasted for more than 20 minutes.

One civilian travelling on a car was killed and injured three including a truck driver in the attack.

The deceased was identified as Dikhonang of Chengdai village, Tamenglong district. He was hit by a bullet at his left chest and died on the spot.

The three injured persons were Jacky Kamei (30) from Tamenglong HQ Medical Gate; Thuanilung Kamei (31), a teacher from Taobam village, Tamenglong district and Nipen Kalita (24) from Khatkhati, Assam.

The injured persons were taken to 8 Assam Rifles post on an ambulance for treatment and later shifted to hospitals in Imphal. The driver is said to be in critical condition.

The loaded vehicles proceeding towards Imphal were halted at a safer place due to the gunfight between the security personnel and suspected NSCN (IM) cadres. In the attack a bullet hit an oil tanker and leaked out oil.  A reinforcement team of Imphal East commando rushed to the spot. Later, the stranded trucks had starting moving towards under tight security escort.
