Black Day

Commemorating the 288th Puya Meithaba, Black Day was observed by International Observation Committee on Puya Meithaba (ICOP), Kangleipak at Kindergarten Montessori School, Takyel Kolom Leikai yesterday.

M. Naokhamba, convenor, ICOP said culture, language and its script are the identity of a community which should be upheld with pride. Burning of Puyas was a very unfortunate incident. The common genealogy would be very much alive even today and there would have been complete unity among the communities if the Puyas had not been destructed, added Naokhamba.

Following the mass destruction of Puyas, the indigenous communities of the land seemed to have forgotten their common genealogy and this ultimately led to misunderstanding and distrust among the different communities of Manipur.

For more than 300 years we have been depending on the script of others. However with the continuous observation of the Puya Mei Thaba Ningshing Numit by the MNF, Metei Mayek is able to substitute the Bengali script of Manipur language book up to class XII, said Naokhamba.
