USPA win women polo

US Polo Association outplayed U.K’s Hurlingham Polo Association by 9-3 goals to champion the 2nd Manipur Statehood Day Women Polo Tournament 2017.

The US team started the onslaught early in the game when skipper Carly Persano came up with the opening goal in the 1 minute and went on scored her second goal in the 4.15 minute. Dominating the field, the US riders Anna Winslow struck the third goal in 2.15 minute and later Audry Persano quickfired two more goals in the 3.08 and 4.37 minute to led by 5 goal in the first chukker.

The Hurlingham Polo Association put up a strong fight in the second chukker but unable to connect to the goal but instead it was Carly Persano of the US who stroked her team’s sixth goal in the 5.43 minute. However Hurlingham team effort paid off when Sarah Jane Hughes hammered in to open their goal account in the 6.51 minute to trial by 1-6 goals.

Hurlingham riders put a brake on US advances in the third chukker and despite theirs good gallop, they managed to struck home two goals through Charlotte Amy Sweeny in the 0.15 minute and skipper Annabel Mcnaught in the 6.50 minute to close the gap by 3-6 goals.

But the US rider came up together in the fourth chukker with skipper Carly Persano in 0.28 minute, Anna Winslow in 3.30 minute and Audry Persano in 4.07 minute to romp home with 9-3 goal victory.

The winning United States Polo Association were given Rs 25,000 along with trophy while the runners up team got Rs 20,000 along with trophy. Both the teams donated the prize cash to the organizer, All Manipur Polo Association toward Save Pony endeavour.

Anna Winslow, the captain of the US team said it was so much fun playing in the historic field. “I feel so fortunate to be here, we are so grateful for the invitation to come over here and I have to come back here next year as well” said the winning captain.
