Mega Singju festival kicks off

Singju, the Manipuri favourite vegetable mixture has got its excellent pace with the beginning of the second Singju Festival organised by the Singju Yokhat Lup festival committee at MMRC & Unity Park of Khangabok in Thoubal district today.

The festival set with the theme “Save our culture and identity” will continue till February 8. Altogether 150 stalls were opened displaying various types of Singju and other cuisines of Manipur. Hand crafts products were also displayed to attract the visitors.

The festival was opened with cultural events showcasing the rich cultural tradition of the state. During the festival various programmes of Marathon Race, Meeting Personalities, Sumang Kumhei, Writers’ Meet, Narrative Art, Meet the Stars, Book Release, Tree Plantation, Fashion Parade, Symposium, Children Science Exhibition, Painting Competition, Recitation and Solo Dance competitions will be witnessed.

Vice Chancellor, Manipur University of Culture Prof.Naorem Khagendra said, people across the glove are trying to promote their tradition and culture which has become the proud privilege of the respective communities. “The cultural university of the state has been putting eeforts to promote our culture which needs support of the people instead of deteriorating our cultural identity” he added.

President of the Singju Yokhat Lup gi president Major Mangang said the festival was organised to reduce people’s love for materials from outside the state to some extent and at the same time to show that the state has enough products to satisfy the people.
