High Court orders over blockade
Manipur High Court has again given directives to the central and the state authorities to carry out the directives given by the court for smooth passage of essential goods carriers.
Following the failure to carry out the courts order to open the blockade along the National Highways in Manipur, the court has again given directives to the secretaries of ministry of defence, ministry of road transport and highways, ministry of home affairs as well as the secretary of state’s consumer affairs, food and public distribution to carry out the directives given earlier particularly given under the order on January 25 so as to provide smooth passage of goods carrier trucks along the national highway which has been blockaded by the United Naga Council since the midnight of November 1.
On January 25 the court had directed GOC 57 Mountain Division/IGAR (South) to arrest any person against whom a reasonable suspicion exists that he would be committing a cognizance offence to put hindrance in the movement of vehicular traffic along the highways in the area under their control.
It also directed the Central Government to provide 72 companies of security forces for disposal by the State Government so that they can be deployed over the areas including those, as has been identified as vulnerable areas in the meeting held on January 19 last, to check any person or group of persons who come out on the highways to enforce the blockade.
The court had also earlier directed the State Government to take measures to increase the frequency of convoy to at least 15 to 20 in a month particularly along NH-37. The Court asked the Central Government to take immediate measures to improve the condition of the road which is in very bad shape so as to make it pliable.
Indian Oil Corporation had also been given directives to take measures for transportation of petroleum products towards Imphal.
The Manipur High Court ordered the concern authorities to submit the action taken reports by January 7 to the court, failure of the directives issued will face the responsibility for not obeying the orders.
