84 percent polled

In the first phase of polling of the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election 84 percent of the electorate in 38 constituencies have exercised their franchise today.

The election polls were conducted under tight security arrangement of central paramilitary forces.

No unwanted severe clashes were seen during the voting hours. However one candidate of People Resurgence and Justice Alliance party, Erendro Leichombam was beaten up at Sinam Leikai in his Thangmeiband constituency by some anti-agents. He was admitted at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Imphal, but later discharges as he was not critically injured.

In an open message released by Erandro said, “I am doing fine. I had a cut in my neck after they dragged me out from my car hit me with our PRJA flag. I had a little bleeding for a time but it’s fine now; no stitches. Fortunately, no broken bones either. I’m totally good now. Please don’t worry, I’m absolutely well! We have taken the doctors report and have filed an FIR against these coward gundas. All of them have been arrested by the police.

The incident today confirms the challenges of our struggle. But when they try to pull us down, let’s rise higher. Obstacles are signs that we are advancing. Challenges like this has also brought us together even closer, said Erendro.

PRJA has complained to the election authority as well as to the police over the attack to him.

Both the big parties Congress and BJP have high hopes of positive results to form the next government in the state.

The remaining 22 constituencies of the state will have their election polls on March 8.

The election commission has also initiated actions on BJP and some news houses for making campaign advertisement against the given period allowed to campaign.
