Assam Rifles foils IED; installs solar lamps

Troops of 27 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 10 Sector Assam Rifles & IGAR (South) detected an IED on 27 March 2017 at 09:15 am in a search operation.

The IED was placed under a culvert on NH-202 in the general area of cement factory, Ukhrul, said a statement released by the AR today.

The area was immediately cordoned off and bomb disposal squad has neutralized the IED in time. There by, emanating the threat on vehicle moving on NH-202. Owing to the vigilant troops of 27 Assam Rifles who spotted the IED on time, casualty to either civilians or security forces was averted, added the statement.

On the other side of its role the 45 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South)undertook a project of installing a 5 KWP Solar Power Plant for the children of Tabitha Children Home at Ramphei Valley under Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme.

The orphanage is home for HIV positive children. Taking note of the difficulties faced by the staff and children during frequent power cuts, 45 Assam Rifles undertook a project of installing a 5 KWP Solar Plant which would provide uninterrupted power in times of power cuts to the orphanage. The children and staff of the orphanage thanked the unit for this noble gesture.
