KEDO Completes a decade of self employment

Completing its ten years of serving the people by employing themselves at Khwairamband Ima Keithel and in Imphal city Kanglei Economic Development Organisation (KEDO) observes its tenth foundation day yesterday.
Kanglei economic development organisation was founded a decade ago with the motive to inculcate work culture among the youth in the state.
On the ‘10thFoundation Day cum May Day Celebration’ held at the Khwairamband Ima Keithel, Imphal Th. Shyamkumar, minister of MAHUD, town planning, forests and environment, horticulture and soil conservation appealed to the citizens of the State especially youths not to be ashamed while taking up any kind of work.

Stating that the youths of the State have a big role to play in improving economy of Manipur, Minister Shyamkumar said, the state will progress once the citizens take up all kinds of work with emphasis on self-employment.
L. Susindro Meitei, parliamentary secretary (Home) assured that, a loan of Rs 20,000 each will be given to KEDO workers in collaboration with Bandhan Bank, promising the same to the women vendors in case of requirement.
Shyamkumar along with L. Susindro handed over a four-wheeler vehicle – ‘Mahindra Jeeto’ to KEDO worker Thockchom Sanathoi which will be used for ferrying drinking water. He bought the vehicle with loan from KEDO Finance.
The annual souvenir of KEDO was also released on the occasion. Awards and certificates were also presented to KEDO workers under best discipline and best worker categories. The function was attended by women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel and members of KEDO.
KEDO which is providing an opportunity for self-employment has been an inspiration of hope for thousands of unemployed youths seeking for ways of earning to sustain life.
At present KEDO has about 150 members including about 50 semi members.
The KEDOs are engaged in various activities from selling tea, self prepared juice, ice creams, milk, pop-corns, edible oil and transporting goods for the women vendors, distribution of food products, lift service, rendering service as night-watches at market places, etc. Besides all, KEDO members open hair dressing salons.
A KEDO member can earn at the minimum of Rs. 1, 000 per day which can help a person enjoy a good living, even better than a government employee.
