Four Manipur Police Commandos Injured in IED Blast

Two police commandoes and two Manipur Rifles personnel were injured at an ambush with IED conducted by suspected to be militants at Kwatha Khunou Lamkhai in Chandel districts which is about 100kms away from Imphal.

The injured personnel were identified as Lalminthang H. Mangte (sub inspector) and AK Martin Star (constable) of Imphal East Police, and Sarungbam Gourahari and Naorem Bishwanath of 6-Manipur Rifles.

Lalminthang belongs to Thangkanphai viilage of Saikhul, Martin Star belongs to Nahrup Huirem Leikai of Imphal East, Gourahari and Biswanath belongs to Andro Awang Leikai and Top awang Leikai of Imphal East respectively.

The ambush was conducted at the advanced escort party of parliamentary secretary (Home) L. Sushindro Meitei who was on his way back from Kwatha.

The ambush occurred at around 12: 40 today at the vehicle of the escort with two simultaneous blast and gun rattle.

Gourahari and Bishwanath were said to be critical. They were airlifted by chopper up to IGAR South and admitted to Shija Hospital and Research Institute. They were said to be in critical condition. The injury to the other two were said to be minor. They were also rushed to the same hospital.

Gourahari was injured at the left eye, chin and at various parts of the body while Bishwanath was injured at the head.

Following the blast, police reinforcements have been rushed to the spot.

This is the second attack carried out by militants on security personnel this month. On May 9, two personnel of the Territorial Army were killed in an IED blast carried out by militants while on road opening duty at Lokchao in Tengnoupal district.
