MINISTER VANGKHANLIAN INSPECTED KHUGA CANAL AND WATER SUPPLY

The main water supply line to the people of Churachandpur and its vicinity, Khuga Dam Canal and Water Reservoir was inspected by Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister V. Hangkhanlian, Deputy Commissioner Shri Shyam Lal Poonia IAS, Superintendent of Police Rakesh Balwal, IPS, L. Dhalballo Singh SER-II, Th. Baite, EE/PHED Churachandpur Division and other officials yesterday.

The Minister and district administration inspected the Left-side main canal which collapsed and spilled water near Mata village on June 2, 2016 and also visited the main supply zone-III Khuga Dam Water Reservoir, Water tank and Bus Terminal (ISBT) located at Pangzawl village. Slow Sand Filter at Buallian Hill, Rapid Said Filter completely constructed and other canals at various places.

At the site, the Department officials and the Minister team discussed about pitiable condition of the water supply. The concerned official informed the minister that zone-III fully functioning at the capacity but Zone-I and II needs to be repaired. The Department concern told that re – building of protection wall is in progress and by filling with earth the canal would be repaired.

The left side canal of the right cracks about 100 meter, the distribution of water to different areas are the main agenda in the discussion. The department officials informed to the Minister that the water is sufficient but it is essential to improve leakage pipe, canal and electricity supply to get water to different place of the town and its areas.

The Minister told the Department officials to find out the requirements for the water supply and submit to him so that further necessary steps can be taken for its improvement after the matter put before the higher authority.

The Minister also said that women’s Market is proposed to be constructed at the present New Bazaar bus parking and since there is a proposal to shift Bus parking at Pangzawl, it area which is in bad condition needs to be repaired soon. Water will be soon be supplied to the unreached areas and damaged canal and pipeline system would be improve soon after the concerned IFCD and PWD authority are consulted.
