BASIC COURSE IN NEWS REPORTING BEGINS IN CHURACHANDPUR

A 7-Day Basic Course in News Reporting for Churachandpur district was inaugurated by Director (IPR) Shri Meghachandra Kongbam today at Lamka Press Club (MHJU), HQ Veng, Churachandpur.

Speaking on the occasion, IPR Director said that in this communication age, media’s role is very important and upto date information on the developmental works taken up by the government should be made available to the general public particularly those residing in rural and hill areas. As a good and successful communicator the youths who are participating in this Basic course in news reporting should play a vital role in communicating the masses for well being of our future.

President, Manipur Hills Journalist Union Shri Sothing Shimray in his speech appreciated the IPR department for organising such kind of training in the hill districts of Manipur. This is very fortunate for us and we must try to learn something about journalism. IPR has been providing opportunity for the hill people in the field of Journalism.

While speaking on the occasion, the Course Co-ordinator, State Institute of Journalism, DIPR Shri Chongtham Noyon Singh greeted the course participants and highlighted the aims and objectives of the State Institute of Journalism, which was established on October 19, 1992.

He mentioned (1) Producing and bringing up professionally qualified personnel in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication by equipping the students with the latest knowledge and imparting adequate professional knowledge and skills of Mass Communication (2) To impart in service training to those engaged in Mass Communication organizations including DIPR and media units of various Departments. (3) Taking up research projects on the traditional and modern Mass Communication systems and preserve them (4) Studying the utilization of social and cultural activities as a means of Mass Communication ; and (5) To help the State for a new meaningful exposure in the matter of development activities and achievements of the Govt. by organizing Seminars, Workshops, Exhibitions etc. as aims and objectives of the Institute.

Altogether 26 youths are participating in the course which will conclude on 19th June, 2017. The Basic course was organised by State Institute of Journalism under DIPR, Govt. of Manipur. (DIPR)
