MAHUD Minister Shri Thounaojam Shyamkumar yesterday said a policy on sale of meat will be made soon to prohibit selling of meat in open on the roadsides in Imphal Municipal Corporation areas.

Shyamkumar said Manipur is like a mini India comprising of people of different faith and beliefs. He said every people of different community must show respect to each other. He was talking to media-persons at his office.

The minister urged the meat sellers to procure licence and sell the meat at suitable place. The state government will strictly monitor on open sale of meat and make a new policy in consultation with various stakeholders, including veterinary and health departments so that it can be sold maintaining hygiene and at a proper place, added the minister.

Shyamkumar also said there is no restriction on consumption on meat by any community of the State as India is a secular and a democratic country.
