Indefinite strike called off

Consequent upon the arrest of one of the killers of HSO president Mr. Palal, the KSO General Headquarters has called off its sustained state-wide general strike proposed to be enforced from midnight of 4th July.

The general strike was not an ‘indefinite general strike’, as reported earlier, but a ‘sustained general strike’ which was to be continued till the killers are arrested and brought to justice, says a press statement released by Paotinthang Lupheng, president of KSO.

The KSO lauded the Imphal West police force, headed by its SP, which was instrumental in apprehending the killer. The KSO hopes that with the arrest of the killer, the authority will certainly arrest the other killer and unearth the conspiracy behind the assassination to the satisfaction of the family, the CSOs and the public alike.

It is unfortunate that the society is being forced to live with the evil of gun culture. It can be seen that wanton killings have become more and more frequent in the land, added the statement.

What the KSO desires is a peaceful society where rule of law prevails. The people need to be shown that the government is in control. The government has to create a situation where guilty criminals found it impossible to escape the long arm of the law. In this way a semblance of law and order can only be restored.

What the KSO wants is for the government is to take drastic measure to put a stop to the prevailing gun culture. It should arrest the killers and bring them to justice. This step may restore people’s faith and confidence on the government and the rule of law. The arrest of the killers will set a good precedence that no one is above the law.

It should be noted that the government failure to solve many killing incidents in the past has only encouraged gun culture and more wanton killings in the society.

The KSO decision to go ahead with its sustained general strike was to force the hands of the government to act, so that there can be rule of law and justice in the land. The people of the land have become totally fed up with wanton killings and gun culture. The KSO decision for the general strike was only a motive to bring peace and security in the society. So it would be prudent for the government to utilize every resource at its disposal to arrest all the killers and the masterminds behind the killing to make an example of the rule of law, said the statement.
