Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh distributed a total of Rs 1,084,1094 as compensation for the injured drivers and damages caused to trucks and LPG bullet tankers today.
The compensation amount was meant for 61 owners, drivers and helpers of the trucks and LPG bullet tankers, which were damaged or injured in different incidents which occurred on the National Highways between November 2016 and January 2017.
The Chief Minister handed over a cheque of Rs. 1,07,01,094 to the executives of All Manipur Petroleum Products Transporters’ Association and a cheque of Rs. 1,40,000 to the representatives of All Manipur Bulk LPG Transporters’ Association during a press conference held at Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh while speaking at the press conference also announced that Rs. 58 lakh had been sanctioned to purchase a recovery van to help the drivers and transporters at the time of any accident or emergency on the National Highways.
He contended that considering the valuable service rendered to the society by drivers and handymen, the compensation amount was handed over today after the State Cabinet took a decision in this regard some time back.
Responding to a query on Government’s plan for setting up of a Highway Protection Force, the Chief Minister said that necessary procedures to set up some fresh IRB Battalions would commence after the results of Manipur Police (2013 and 2016 batches) recruitment examinations are declared.
Regarding recent spates of flood, the Chief Minister informed that a Central Government team had assessed the situation by camping in the State for around four days.
Apart from making necessary arrangements to pump out waters from the flooded areas, the State Government had also taken up required measures to check spread of different diseases in these areas, he added.
Stating that there are reports of spreading diseases like Dengue, Japanese Encephalitis and Swine Flu in some areas, the Chief Minister stated that the concerned Department have been working day and night to check further spread in other areas.
He further said that the Government would provide seedlings of paddy varieties which can be harvested within 100 days.
CAF & PD Minister Shri Karam Shyam, Forest and Environment Minister Shri Th. Shyamkumar, Agriculture Minister Shri V. Hangkhanlian, Education Minister Shri Th. Radheshyam and Commissioner (CAF & PD and IPR) Shri K. Radhakumar were also present at the press conference.
