Police interrupts general strike

State police disrupted twenty four hour state wide general strike imposed by All Manipur Police Constable (Male/Civil) Viva Vouch Completed Candidate Fresh Batch “2016, 10+2”.

Strike supporters came out along the streets at Singjamei-Canchipur road and Mayai Lambi road in Imphal West to blockade the roads. However police dispersed the strike supporters and apprehended 20 of them.

The general strike was imposed since yesterday midnight against the failure of the commitment made by the chief minister, Nongthombam Biren Singh to declare the viva vouce result by July.

The candidates have been demanding to declare the result of the viva vouce which was held in November 2016. However the result was kept halted due to the model code of conduct that came into effect ahead of the state assembly.

In a press statement released by the fresh constable candidate group on August 1stated that the committment given by the chief minister and the parliamentary secretary, home, L. Susindro to declare the result of the viva vouce by July was not followed. Hence the candidates resort to impose general strike.

It also cautioned the government for severe forms of agitations if the government remain irresponsible even after the general strike.
