OLDEST PARLIAMENTARIAN RISHANG PASSES AWAY

Rishang Keishing oldest parlimentarian and veteran Congress leader who served as chief minister of Manipur and member of Rajya Sabha has passed away at 97.

Doctor declared his death at around 8: 15 pm, yesterday.

He was admitted at RIMS on July 1. He was suffering from heart and kidney ailments.

His participation in politics is recalled by the people of the state. News of his death has gone viral on social media in which many prays for his soul to rest in heaven.

Rishang Keishing was born October 25, 1920 at Bungpa village of Ukhrul.

Keishing served as Chief Minister of Manipur from 1980 to 1988 and from 1994 to 1997.

He was a freedom fighter and member of parliament during 1952-57.

Keishing’ term at Rajya Sabha ends on April 9, 2014. He was elected twice to the upper house since 2002.

All the government offices and educational institutions will remain closed tomorrow as a mark of respect to the former chief minister of Manipur and three days State morning will be observed.
