VERIFICATION OF BOGUS LAWYERS PRESENCE IN STATE BAR COUNCIL

The Bar Council of Manipur (BCM) has completed alomost 75 % of the process of verification of  the lawyers following directives by the Bar Council of India given to the state bar councils to check presence of bogus lawyers.

It was stated by K. Jagajit, executive member of the verification commitee of the BCM while talking to the media at the council’s office in Imphal, today.

The bar council of India in order to streamline the legal profession in the country have made a rule “Bar Council of India Certificate and Place of Practice (Verification) Rules, 2015 to screen off fake lawyers, imposters and such other persons who claimed themselves to be lawyers by holding duplicate educational testimonies, said Chandrasekhar, secretary BCM.

The state bar council under the guidance and instruction of the Bar Council of India have already started the verification process of the  enrolled lawyers, added Chandrasekhar.

There are 723 members enrolled in the BCM as in 2015.

The supreme court in the recent order dated August 23 passed in several writ petiton filed in connection with the verification rules of the Bar Council of India have directed that the verification process be expedited on and another 15 days time to be given to the concerned advocates for doing correction of their respective forms.

The university authorities have been directed to ensure verification degrees awarded to the advocates within one monthwithout any change. The presence of fake lawyers in the state bar council can be found out after the verification of required academic certificates, said Jagajit.

In any case the necessary steps for verification shall have to be concluded by December 31 this year. The bar council of India also directed to submit a status report and the matter now pending before the Supreme court will be taken up in the second week of January next year, said Chandrasekhar.
