Police raid former MDS director’s house

Imphal, Sept. 5:  Following the FIR registered on Friday upon the former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh and five others who were accused of Rs. 189.79 crore scam, police raided the house of Y. Ningthem, former director of Manipur Development Society, yesterday.

The raid was conducted after court issued a warrant based on the FIR that charged former chief secretaries – D.S. Ponia, P.C. Lawmkunga and O. Nabakishore Singh, and an administrative official of MDS, S. Ranjit Singh for allegedly emembezzlement of the said amount in taking up constructions entrusted to MDS, along with cheating, criminal conspiracy and breach of trust, the last being non-bailable.

The court of sessions judge, Imphal West, M. Manojkumar, issued the warrant after sub-divisional police official A. Ghanashyam Sharma applied for the raid of Ningthem’s house, at Mantripukhri.

Ibobi Singh was chairman of the MDS between July 1, 2013 and August 31, 2014.

The raid continued till late in the evening. However it was not clear that if any recovery was made.
