Biren directs deputy commissioners over candidature of non local issue

Imphal, Sept 15: Chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh has directed the deputy commissioners to look into the banning of non locals by Kangleipak Students’ Organisation (KSA) and Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) Students’ Wing in the ensuing Panchayat election.

Biren Singh was talking to the reporters at Koirengei when he came to attend the launching function of Swachhata Hi Seva at Koirengei organised by Forest Department, Manipur.

The cleanliness campaign was launched to join the fortnight long nationwide campaign as part of the Gandhi Jayanti observation from September 15 till October 2, 2017.

The Kangleipak Students’ Association, KSA and the JCILPS’ students’ wing, yesterday warned of stern agitation against all non-locals if non-local candidates contesting in the ensuing  Panchayat election do not withdraw from their candidatures.

KSA president Moirangthem Lakshman yesterday said,  a total of 71 non-local candidates–14 in Kanglatongbi, 16 in Serou, 34 in Jiribam, 2 in Waiton and 5 in Saiton, are contesting in Panchayat election. It is against the spirit of KSA’s movement to save the original people  if the state.

The KSA warned them to withdraw by September 20. Lakshman urged the non-local candidates to withdraw failing which KSA will initiate a strong agitation from September 22.

Students’ Wing of JCILPS also appealed the deputy commissioner concerned to take up necessary action to cut-off the names of the non-local candidates.

In the ocassion at Koirengei Biren Singh administered the clean India pledge to each who were present at the launch of the campaign held at Koirengei to keep India neat and clean.

Loci Dikho, PHED Minister; P Shambu, Additional Chief Secretary: K Angami, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, officials of forest department and several students attended the launching of the campaign.

Loci Dikho, PHED Minister along the officials of the PHED department also launched the Swachhata Hi Seva at the PHED department today along with a rally flagged off from the department to spread awareness about the fortnight long cleanliness campaign.

The awareness campaign rally which took off from the PHED department covered till the western gate of Kangla Fort.

MAHUD and Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) also jointly clean the areas in a around Lamphel Supermarket as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva, cleanliness campaign.

Lokeshore appealed the people to keep the areas neat and clean and to give cooperation to the IMC garbage pickup volunteers and NGO’s who are coming to collect garbage from door steps.
