Imphal, September 15: Muslim organisations spearheaded a sit-in in on the road at Hatta in Imphal East protesting against the silence of the government, demanding to punish deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar’s son, against his comment on Facebook which allegedly hurt the sentiment of the community.
Yumnam Debajit, deputy chief minister’s son posted his message “The killing of animals in the name of qurbani is nothing but a practice to kill human beings” on the Eid-ul-Adha day. The Muslim organisations in Manipur have been demanding to punish him according to the cyber crime laws.
The organisations have also been demanding resignation of the deputy chief minister on moral grounds when no action has been taken up against Debajit by the government. They had submitted a memorandum to the chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh and also lodged a complaint to the cyber crime unit. So far no step is seen taken up.
“The issue should not be taken lightly. It can be settled by a word from the deputy chief minister. His silence seems as if he is the father of only one. Is the disheartened community not the children of the state? We want justice said Abdullah Pathan, president of Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation.
Manipur has a cyber crime police station opened on June 24. It is the first cyber crime police station in the north east. Chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh on the launching occassion said with the cyber world becoming active cyber crimes are on the rise and it called for a separate cyber crime police station to secure the cyber space.
