Football craze seek permission; Leptao announes Rs. 10, 000 for Manipur footballers in the Indian Squad

Imphal, September 29: Football Lovers Manipur, a group of football enthusiast and the NEROCA FC Fan Club today requested the chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh to permit them install flex banner to support the Indian under 17 football squad in the ensuing Under 17 FIFA world cup, starting from October 6.

The football craze people congratulated those eight players selected in the list of 21 in the Indian squad.

In the request letter submitted today to the chief minister’s office said, the football lovers and fan club has been planning to show respect to the Manipur players by installing Flex Banner at different places of Manipur ahead of the U-17 World Cup.

Saying that they had plans to install banner including the heart of the Imphal city sought the permission to make it happen officially from the concern authority.

They have also requested to donate some contribution to make the installation of banners possible.

Amarjit Singh Kyam of Manipur is playing as the Indian team captain in the midfield.

Thangjam Boris will play as defender. Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem is taking the goalkeeper’s role, Jackson Singh Thounaojam as midfielder, Md. Shah Jahan, Nongdamba Naorem, Suresh Singh Wangjam and and Ninthoingamba Khumanthem as midfielders.

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Letpao Haokip wished them and the Indian team all success in their World Cup campaign.

“Really it is very heartening that eight boys from Manipur are representing the country in the U-17 FIFA World Cup. I wish them the best of luck. I also thank the players for their hard-works which earned them a place in the Indian football squad. We, the people of Manipur are with them. They are the face of Manipur,” Shri Letpao Haokip said in a press meet held at the Secretariat Conference Hall today.

Letpao Haokip, who himself was a professional footballer, announced Rs. 10,000 each to the eight players from his personal end as a token of encouragement.

The Minister said that the government has a policy for awarding special incentives to international players from the state. He said that every sports person who represented the State or the country in international arenas are given Rs. 5 lakh cash incentive. The same will be applied to the eight footballers selected to represent India in the U-17 World Cup, Letpao Haokip said.

“A super special incentive for the players are planned by the Government if the players win gold medal,” he said but refused to disclose what ‘this super special incentive’ would be.
