5 crore worth gold seized

Imphal, October 1: Imphal custom division today seized gold biscuits worth Rs. 5 crores from a Tata Sumo vehicle that plies along Imphal-Jiribam road.

The gold ferrier vehicle bore the registration number MN-01 G 8543. Md. Yakoob brom Bangoon Mayai Leikai owns the vehicle. Md. Najimuddin from Thoubal Turel Ahanbi was the driver of the vehicle.

Meiraba, superintendent of the Customs division, Imphal talking to reporters at its Sangakpham office said, twelve gold bars weighing 19.954 kg were found hidden on the left side of the driver’s seat in a specially built secret cavity

when the vehicle was intercepted at Yurenjam near power station, Imphal West.

The gold bars were brought from Myanmar to send to other parts of India, said Meiraba. We are investigating from which route the gold were transported in Manipur and in which state the gold bars are to be marketed.
