State ready for steps to win ST status

Imphal, October 2: The Manipur government is ready to take up appropriate steps following recommendations by Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribe after relevant studies and examinations, said a press statement released today by the state government. The press release stated that the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) has been demanding for inclusion of the ethnic Meitei/Meetei Community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list since December, 2012.
