NEMCHA KIPGEN CELEBRATES NINGOL CHAKKOUBA WITH KPI WIDOWS

KANGPOKPI, OCTOBER 21, 2017 (DIPR): On the auspicious day of Ningol Chakkouba festival, Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen graced the closing ceremony of the 1st Kangpokpi District Widow’s Welfare Society – Huhhingna (Retreat) Camp held at Kangpokpi Christian Church (KCC), Kangpokpi as Chief Guest.

Addressing over 100 widows of the district, she expressed “Being the lone woman Minister in the State Government, I feel deeply connected and associated with all the womenfolk of the state and so felt privileged to be a part of this retreat camp.” It is a known fact that there are many women who are spearheading in various spheres of life. So, she urged all the women present on this occasion not to be disheartened and to believe in oneself so that they too can contribute to the welfare and development of the society at large.

Citing the hardwork endured by Renu of Renu Handloom & Handicraft Co-operative Society Ltd., Mantripukhri, Imphal East who is a National Awardee in Co-operative Excellence, Social Welfare Minister Nemcha calls upon all the widows to take Renu as an inspiration to improve their lives. As mentioned by the Minister, presently, the National Awardee employs many widows and opens the scope for employment for them. Not just employing the widows, she also helps in giving education to the children and also to the orphans. In an effort to generate employment to the women, particularly widows and the destitute who are interested in weaving and handloom, there is a plan to open Handloom & Handicraft Co-operative Society Ltd branch in Kangpokpi too, she added.

Minister Nemcha also highlighted the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS) under Social Welfare Department and urged them to submit a list of widows who are eligible for this scheme. She assured that she will always be working for their welfare and encouraged them to directly get in touch with her even through the ‘Nemcha Kipgen Mobile App’ that was launched earlier.
