Political parties meeting affirms to plea for integrity; NPF absent

All political party meeting chaired by CM Biren Singh at his office

Pothashang News ServiceImphal, October 28:  All political party meeting was today held at the chief minister’s secretariat and took the resolutions to press the union government so that talks between NSCN IM and the government of India would not disturb the integrity of Manipur.

It discussed over the possible impact of the ongoing talk between the NSCN IM and the government of India on the state’s integrity.

All the existing political parties in Manipur except the NPF took part in the meeting. It took three resolutions.

The first resolution taken was to form a formal ‘concentrative committee’ as former chief minister Radhabinod Koijam had earlier proposed earlier to press the centre over the integrity question. The second was that all the political parties in the state should their party high commands and formation of a memorandum drafting committee to plea the union government to safeguard the territorial integrity of the state.

The chief also asserted a delegation of political parties can visit Delhi to highlight the issue and its importance.

Responding on the question over fear of disintegration of the ongoing talk between the NSCN IM and the government the chief minister of Manipur Nongthomba Biren Singh yesterday said his government has reaffirmed not to compromise with the territorial integrity of the state and oneness of its people at any cost.

In order to strengthen this stand, an all-political party meeting was aimed to hold at CM’s secretariat today.

Bren Singh said that he has trust in the leadership of the current union government.

However, the state government would directly approach the union government if any suspicious move surfaces in the coming days, he added.

Shiv Sena, Manipur unit yesterday submitted a memorandum to Governor Najma Heptulla with a demand to amend Article 3(C) of the Constitution, according to which the Parliament may, by law, diminish the area of any state.

The submission of the memorandum comes in the background of the ongoing peace talk between the government of India and the NSCN IM that has become suspicious in the neighbouring states of the region of seceding of territorial boundaries.

Tombi said, it is unfortunate that the content of the Framework Agreement has been kept a secret and this has only accentuated the apprehension of the people. The framework agreement was signed between the government of India and the NSCN IM on August 13, 3015, to arrive at a peace accord that solves the over six-decades-old Naga issue.

The recent closed door meeting between interlocutor RN Ravi and a few stake holders in Dimapur has further added insult to the injury, he said.

Th. Deban, convenor of Iboyaima Memorial Trust condemning the close door meeting between RN Ravi and the six Naga bodies, said, despite of people’s pressure to reveal what is in the framework agreement still remains concealed. There should not be any hidden agenda that would break the integrity of the state. If the information of forming a Naga council by integrating Naga inhabited areas is true, we will oppose it, added Deban.
