Imphal, November 4: “Leepun Lamjen”, a unity marathon run which was scheduled tomorrow has been postponed until further announcement of a new date, due to Maoist Communist Party of Manipur’s general strike.

The communist party imposed the general strike tomorrow starting from 5 am to 5 pm, demanding action against the culprits who are responsible for the misappropriation of PDS items in the state.

The mega marathon was supposed to start from Bishnupur and wine up at Khuman Lampak sports complex with a targeted participation of 200 runners from across the state.

Convenor of the mega marathon, Akham Kunjakeshor talking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, here said, this is the first unity run organised by Struggle Committee Manipur (SCM). It was aimed to promote unity in Manipur while the people of various ethnic groups appear to think of building up their own community creating enmity amongst us. This has made us to organise this marathon, added Kunjakeshore.

SCM is a conglomeration of Socialist Students’ Union of Manipur, Manipur Proletariat People’s Democratic Union and Socialist Women Association, Manipur.

Kunjakeshore said the marathon has to be postponed as there would be inconveniences due to the general strike. The organisers will soon fix another date in December, he added.
