DEPUTY CHIEF MINISTER DISTRIBUTES HIGH EFFICIENCY L.E.D READING LAMPS TO AUTONOMOUS DISTRICT COUNCILS

IMPHAL, 8TH NOVEMBER, 2017 (DIPR): Deputy Chief Minister YumnamJoykumar Singh today distributed High Efficiency L.E.D Reading Lamps to Six Autonomous District Council (ADCs) in Imphal. In the distribution function held at the Auditorium Hall of Manipur Science Centre in Takyelpat, Deputy Chief Minister handed over L.E.D. Reading Lamps to CEOs of the six ADCs ofKangpokpi, Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Chandel, Senapati and Ukhrul districts.

Speaking at the function,  Joykumar Singh said, Government is committed to reach out benefits through various departments upto the lowest level so that poorest of the poor can avail the benefits. He said, though department of Science & Technology is a small department, but it can play a major role in bringing a change in energy consumption. In most of the hilly areas where electricity supply is yet to be given, people especially learning community have been facing a lot of inconveniences. In view of this, the department has initiated this programme under Integrated Rural Energy Programme (IREP),2016-17 to cover those areas. Asking to implement the programme effectively in the hilly areas, Joykumar Singh appealed the ADCs to select beneficiaries in accordance with the priority which has to be given mostly to the learning communities.

Reiterating to inculcate scientific temperament and knowledge to people, Deputy Chief Minister said, Science Clubs and Science Hubs have to be opened in the Sub-Divisional and block levels also. He said, various awareness programmes on Science and Technology should also be initiated to understand people what science is all about and its implications in human lives. Education of Science and Technology in right manner will be more helpful for a meaningful existence, he added.

Deputy Chief Minister also inspected the ongoing construction works of Innovation Hub in the complex of Manipur Science Centre, Takyelpat.

Joint Secretary (Science & Technology) A. Subash Singh said, it is a good step to help people mostly students in their learning. Director (Science & Technology)  E. Ibocha Singh said, a total of 4,950 L.E.D. Reading Lamps will be distributed under the programme to the beneficiaries. The department will try to introduce Solar Home Lighting in the next financial year under the programme, he added.  HaokholalHangshing Chairman, ADC, Sadar Hills also spoke on the occasion. Chairman and Members of all six ADCs, Director (MASTEC) and other representativesattended among others in the function.
