LILONG NAGAR PANCHAYAT AND ANDRO NAGAR PANCHAYAT TO GET MUNICIPALITY STATUS SOON: SHYAMKUMAR

IMPHAL, NOVEMBER 12, 2017(DIPR): Shri Thounaojam Shyamkumar, Minister of MAHUD, Town Planning, Forests and Environment and Horticulture and Soil Conservation, today announced that the Lilong Nagar Panchayat, Imphal West and Andro Nagar Panchayat, Imphal East will be upgraded to municipality status soon.

He made the statement at the closing ceremony of the Campaign & Observation of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) under IEC 2016-2017 from 5th to 12th November, 2017 of Lilong Nagar Panchayat at the Panchayat Community Hall, Lilong, Imphal West.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest of the function, Th. Shyamkumar said that, cleaning process of riverbeds of different rivers, including in the Langthabal Assembly Constituency will begin from the month of December-January. Stating that, his department has already submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Centre for cleaning the riverbeds in the State, the Minister said, he is aware of the problems of the people caused by overflowing of river during the incessant rains.

The Minister said that, the new government is committed for working for the welfare of the people. He said that, the allegations levelled against Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Minister, Shri Karam Shyam is baseless and said that, such allegations without evidence should be refrained as it is detrimental in the development process. He also assured to extend all possible help from his department to the councillors of Lilong Nagar Panchayat.

Shri Karam Shyam, Minister of CAF &PD and Revenue, in his presidential speech said that, every individual needs to inculcate the civic sense. Opining that cleanliness begins from home, he said that, it has to be maintained by every individual irrespective of age group and status.

He said that, we should focus on overall development and refrain from party politics. Politics means change and it is the responsibility of the public to analyse whether their elected representatives have made the changes as promised to them, he added.

Stating that the truth cannot be covered up forever, Karam Shyam said that, he is committed and determined to work for the welfare of the people. He also said that, people should refrain from using the tactics of character assassination and misleading the public against elected representatives and judge them on the merit of their work.

Ministers Th. Shyamkumar and Karam Shyam distributed prizes to the winners of the essay and painting competitions. Robin Blackie, Treasurer, BJP State Manipur Pradesh, S. Sanatomba Singh, Vice Chairperson, Lilong Nagar Panchayat, Councillors, students of various schools and people of the constituency attended the function.
