Imphal, November 13:  Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Takyel, Imphal students today took out rally in Imphal demanding to provide appropriate principal and required infrastructures for the institute.

The agitating students said the government has long been neglecting their demands. “We have taken up agitations and the principal secretary PK Singh came during a recent agitation and promised to fulfill our demand with an appropriate principal. Today as recommended by the principal secretary S. Naba was sent to join our institute as principal. We denied him as he doesn’t possess the status to be the head of a technical institute”, said Moramba Meitei, secretary of All Manipur ITI Students’ Union.

Seven principals have been recommended as principal for the institute. But none of them are suitable for the post, said Moramba.

The institute’s industry workshop roof is leaked when rain falls. “Should we die of electric shock with the machines during our ongoing training?” asked the students.

The workshop is flooded whenever rains. There is no enough and suitable tools and machines for the workshop and there is no required books which are supposed to be imported from Germany in the institute. It seems there is not authority for the ITI and as if the government doesn’t want ITI to survive, he added.
