Search operation amid President boycott by CorCom

Imphal, November 17: State security has been hectic conducting search operations and taking up frisking and checking security measures for uninterrupted Manipur Sangai festival while CorCom boycotts visit of the President of India Ram Nath Kovind.

The Coordinating Committee, CorCom of rebel groups has imposed general strike from 5 am of November 21 till 8 am of November 22 boycotting President Ramnath Kovind visit to Manipur. He is visiting Manipur to inaugurate the Manipur Sangai festival on November 21.

Thoubal district police today conducted cordon and search operation at Yairipok Singa. During the operation 150 persons were verified at the spot.

Imphal east police also conducted search operation at Okram Chuthek in Imphal East, yesterday and done verification of the localities.

Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival 2017 which will be held at different venues—Hapta Kangjeibung, Lamboi Khongnangkhong, Keibul Lamjao etc.

Chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh yesterday visited Hapta Kangjeibung and Lamboi Khongnangkhong venues to oversee the arrangements for the upcoming ten-day long Manipur Sangai festival.

He instructed the officials of environment, PWD and forest departments to make Imphal clean during the festival. He asked the officials to work day and night and deploy adequate number of machinery and work-force to complete various works before the festival.

Curtain Raiser of the festival will be inaugurated by the chief minister at Keibul Lamjao on November 19.
