SECURITY REMAINS ALERT FOR MANIPUR SANGAI FESTIVAL

Imphal, November 19: Cordon and search operation has been continuously taking up as security measures to defend from any unwanted disturbances to the forthcoming 10-day Manipur Sangai Festival that would be launched on Tuesday by the President Ram Nath Kovind.

The Coordinating Committee, CorCom of rebel groups has boycotted Ram Nath’s visit to Manipur and imposed general strike on the launching day 5 am of November 21 till 8 am of the next day.

As part of the security measures cordon and search operation were conducted this morning at Mahabali Kabui Khun at the southern side of Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre, the main cultural venue of the state tourism festival, and at Ragailong area in Imphal East.

The search operation at Mahabali Kabui khul was led by senior police officers Robinsun Khamnam and  B. Lunthang Vaiphei, under the overall supervision of superintendent of Imphal East police Kabib K.

In the operation 465 persons including 105 female were verified and out of which 11 persons including one bail out were detained for further verification at Porompat police station.

In the other search operation at Ragailong led by inspector Shimray. Around 80 houses were covered during the search operation. No one was picked up. However the names of the house owners and family staying in rental houses were recorded for future reference.

Frisking and checking has been conducting round the clock at different place in Imphal and around festival sites.
