Police arrested RPF/PLA with large arms and ammunitions

Imphal, November 28: Police today arrested four RPF/PLA cadres including two women cadres from their residences at Imphal West.

They were arrested during preventive measures taken up in connection to the ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival, the biggest tourism festival of the state.

The arrested persons along with the arms and ammunitions recovered from their possession were displayed before the media.  

The arrested persons were identifies as Naorem Bhume Singh, 44, of Naorem Leikai, Imphal West, Konsam Joykumar Singh, 47 from Thongju Part II, Imphal West, Naorem Ongbi Premila Devi, 37 of Kha Naorem Leikai, Imphal West, Huidrom Ongbi Jiballata Devi of Thongju Pechu Lampak, Imphal West.

Bhume and Joykumar are active members where the two women were over ground workers who helped the two active workers in their movement.

They were arrested from their respective residences.

From them one AK-56 Rifles along with five magazines, 15 numbers of AK-57 ammunitions, one letode gun, 10 numbers of lethode shell, one 9 mm pistol with magazine, some tools used for repairing arms and two mobile phones along with SIM cards.

According to the police, a counter insurgency operation was conducted following a specific information of presence of active members of RPF/PLA in and around Thongju Pechu Lampak.  

Under the supervision of superintendent of Imphal East police Kabib K, teams of Imphal East police commandoes with women police led assisted by Singjamei police conducted the operation this afternoon.

The arrested persons and recovered arms will be handed over to Singjamei police station for necessary legal action, said a police statement.
