IED THREATENS LAST DAY OF MANIPUR SANGAI FESTIVAL

Imphal, November 30: A powerful explosive device, IED was safely exploded by a bomb disposal squad of Manipur police at Khoyathong in the heart of Imphal at about noon today, the last day of the Manipur Sangai Festival.

The explosive device was found fitted at lock of the shutter of an iron godown at the south of Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba.

The bomb experts couldn’t move away the bomb. However it was exploded safely after people was prohibited crossing the area. The explosion shook Imphal city.

The bomb was found at about 6: 30 am and it was exploded at around 11: 50 am.

The godown is named Kamdhenu TMT and it was run by Ajay Patni from West Bengal. Ajay has 3/4 stores at Dharmasala, Thangal Bazar. It was suspected that the bomb might relate to extortion.

The state home department has been intensifying security measures to prevent such untoward incident during the Sangai festival, biggest tourism festival of the state.
