DMRAO LIFTS THE 8TH SAHEED MANORANJAN FOOTBAL TOURNAMENT TROPHY

Imphal, December 20, 2107 (DIPR): The Dimapur Road Athletic Organisation (DM RAO), Sekmai football team emerged champions in the 8th Saheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial CRPF State Open Football Tournament, 2017 by defeating Southern Sporting Union (SSU) by 1-0. Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh graced as Chief Guest at the closing function of the tournament held at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, Imphal today.

 Speaking as Chief Guest of the function, Chief Minister said that CRPF has played a vital role in maintaining law and order, peace and tranquillity in the State. During various economic blockades happened in the State, he said, CRPF extended their help for supplying of food grains, medicines, fuel gas to bring relief to the people of the State. Chief Minister thanked the CRPF for co-operating with the State Administration for better governance in the State.

Recalling the supreme sacrifices made by the CRPF personnel in the State, Chief Minister said that CRPF had played an instrumental role during floods and provided prompt relief and help to our citizen including supply of food and medicines. We should never forget the sacrifices and initiatives made by the CRPF in the State, he added.

 He urged the All Manipur Football Association to organise such tournament on schedule time yearly and government would extend every possible help organising the tournament. Chief Minister said that such football tournament would encourage the youths of the State to join the force and serve the country.

 Chief Minister mentioned that Saheed Ng. Manoranjan Singh was awarded Police Medal for Gallantry for his unmatched bravery, undeterred determination and unparalleled devotion and conspicuous gallant action.

 The ten day long State open football tournament was organised by Nagaland Manipur Sector CRPF and All Manipur Football Association to honour the brave son of the soil Shaheed Ng. Manoranjan Singh of CRPF Manipur & Nagaland Sector – 201 COBRA Bn who laid down his life during an operation against Maoists at village Singhanmadgu, Dantewada, Chhattisgarh on 17th September, 2009. The tournament is being organised since 2010. 16 Football Teams participated in the tournament.

Inspector General, Nagaland Manipur Sector CRPF Shri Vikram Sahgal, officers and personnel of CRPF attended the closing function.
