BRAVERY, COURAGE, HONESTY & DIGNITY DEFINES GORKHA COMMUNITY’S QUALITY

Imphal, December 27, 2017 (DIPR): Education, Labour & Employment Minister Shri Thokchom Radheshyam said that the Gorkha Community has always been defined by the quality of bravery, courage, honesty and dignity. The community, through their undying spirit of bravery, loyalty and sacrificing will for the welfare of the people, has made huge contributions in the making of the Nation and the state as well.

The Minister was speaking at the two day Golden Jubilee Celebration of the All Manipur Gorkha Students’ Union (AMGSU) held at the Hindi Higher Secondary School, Football Ground Kanglatongbi today. Further, he explained that due to such quality of courage and bravery, the Gorkha Regiments of the Indian Army was set up playing a vital role in safeguarding and keeping the country safe, till today. The Gorkha Regiments of the Indian Army also communicates in Gorkhali language, he added.

Congratulating the union on the Golden Jubilee celebration, he said that fifty years is a very long time facing many hardships and problems which are yet to be overcome. Calling upon the students – the future pillars, he appealed to unite together and march for the upliftment of the poor and weaker section of the society for an inclusive growth, as the slogan of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas states, he added. Any assistance and help require, he said the government is ready to deliver.
There is a huge population of labourers in the Gorkha community engage in different types of work. He said that there is a need to identify them and get registered for labour card so that they could benefit from the government schemes.

A memorial stone was unveiled in the celebration and a memorandum was also submitted.

MLA Sekmai AC Shri Heikham Dingo Singh, Political Advisor to Chief Minister Dr. R. K. Ranjan Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West Shri Ningthoujam Geoffrey, members of the AMGSU, locals attended the celebration.
