All set to observe ‘Puya Mei Thaba Numit’

Imphal: The International Observation Committee on Puya Mei Thaba (ICOP) is observing the 289th Puya Meithaba Numit (the day sacred scriptures of Manipur were burnt) for this on January 9 (23 of wakching month in Manipuri lunar calendar) at Kangla and Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen.

The day will be also observed as black day for three consecutive days at Special Regular English School, Nambol, said Moirangthem Naokhomba Meetei, convener of the observation committee in a press conference today held at Citizens Club, Wangkhei Khunou.

Naokhomba said ICOP has been observing this day for 40 years. Earlier it was Meitei National Front that used to observe the day.

The annual best citizen award of the observation will be also conferred to two individuals, one from the tribal communities and one from the valley area. This year the Chingmi Tammi Nungshi Lipun award will be presented to Tangkhul veteran singer, Reuben Mashangva and Maichou Ningshing award to ICOP advisor, Ibechoubi Leima. The awards carry a cash reward of Rs.10,000 each.

The wall poster campaign began today for the day’s observation.
