Good infrastructure and equipment a must try for any research: Najma Heptulla

Imphal (DIPR): Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla today said that good infrastructure and equipment are a must for doing a research work and so it is necessary to upgrade the standard of equipment and machines with time. She said this while speaking as Chief Guest at the inaugural function of “Digital Radiography & High End Ultrasonography Machines” in the Department of Radio Diagnosis, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at Jubilee Hall, RIMS, Imphal.

She further stated that RIMS has come a long way since its establishment in 1972 and it has now become the only Regional Institute to provide services to all the North Eastern States in the field of Medical, Dental, Nursing Education, etc. Although RIMS faces lack of infrastructure, it has made a tremendous progress over the years with its talented teachers, Doctors, etc.

Manipur, She said, being a state with a large area in the hilly terrain where communication is difficult, the task of providing medical aid to people in far flung areas of the state is also challenging. Flying Dispensary, which our state will soon have, under a Central Government Scheme will introduce a system of health outreach service to the remote rural and hill areas.

Governor also thanked Samsung Electronics Pvt. Ltd for ensuring quality healthcare to the people by donating the machines. She also urged the people of the state to come forward and help the needy people.

Dr. Manoj Rajoria, Convenor, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and Family Welfare, Government of India who was also present in the inaugural function said that if RIMS develops its infrastructure, the Government will try to increase its undergraduate intake capacity from its current 100 seats.

Shri K. Somaprasad, MP, Rajya Sabha; Shri Ashok Siddarth, MP, Rajya Sabha; Shri K. Kamaraj, MP, Lok Sabha; Thangso Baite, MP, Lok Sabha; Shri J.J.T. Natterjee, MP, Lok Sabha; Shri Arjun Lal Meena, MP, Lok Sabha who are also the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Health and Family Welfare, Government of India; Gayatri Mishra, Jt. Secretary, MoHFW; Prof. A. Santa Singh, Director, RIMS also attended the inaugural function.

It is worth mentioning that it is the first time the members of the  Parliamentary Committee on Health and Family Welfare visit Imphal. Blue Card which is meant for senior citizens and RIMS Calendar, 2018 were also released for the first time in the history of RIMS during the function.
