Security beefed up in Imphal ahead of R’Day celebration

Imphal, January 17, 2018: Security measures have been beefed up in Imphal city and around as Manipur gears up for the 69th Republic Day celebration enforcing conducting cordoned and search operations, frisking and checking and other preventive measures.

Cordoned and search operations were conducted at Roopmahal tank area and Nagamapal SSS hotel area in Imphal West and at Checkon area in Imphal East.

During the operation at Roopmahal tank area about 80 persons were verified. Nine of them having no proper documents were handed over to city police station. No one was oicked up at the other two operations.

A combined team of Singjamei police and 6th Assam rifles unit took up preventive measures along Imphal city streets from Yaiskul to Singjamei Supermarket.

Inspector N. Ingocha said the sensitisation programme was conducted to prevent unwanted happening that would harm the public. He said people have a bad habit of throwing garbage at road side and medians. Illegal organisation may take chance to plant explosives. The police officer appealed the people to collect their belongings piled on the roadside before January 18.
