NEMCHA KIPGEN CONDUCTS SURPRISE INSPECTION AT VARIOUS NGOs

Bishnupur/Imphal, January 30, 2018 (DIPR): Surprise inspection at various NGOs run under UJJAWALA and Swadhar Greh Schemes was conducted today by Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Smt. Nemcha Kipgen. The inspection was carried out in some of the NGOs located in Bishnupur District, Imphal West District and Imphal East District respectively.

Addressing the media, Minister Nemcha said that the main motive of today’s inspection is to check whether the NGOs are properly functional as per the norms and guidelines under the UJJAWALA and Swadhar Greh Schemes.

Social Welfare Minister expressed satisfaction on some of the centres she inspected today and at the same time, she also come across some centres which is not up to the mark. Appropriate action will be taken up accordingly, Nemcha asserted.

The officials of the various centre was advised by the Minister to maintain the details of the beneficiaries efficiently and the proper record should be retain. She also encourage the officials in the respective homes to engage the beneficiaries in vocational trainings, food processing, education, sports, etc.

Till date, there are 11 Homes under the Swadhar Scheme and 23 Homes under the Ujjawala Scheme in Manipur. Minister Nemcha appeal all the concern people who runs such homes not to fail to comply with the provisions given by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.

It may ne mentioned that the Swadhar scheme was launched by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development in 2002 for rehabilitation of women in difficult circumstances. It provides shelter, food, clothing and care to the marginalized women/girls who are in need. The beneficiaries include widows deserted by their close ones, women prisoners released from jail and without family support, women survivors of natural disasters, women victims of violence etc. The implementing agencies are mainly NGOs.

Also, “Ujjawala” is a Comprehensive Scheme for Prevention of Trafficking and Rescue, Rehabilitation, Re-integration and Repatriation of Victims of Trafficking for Commercial Sexual Exploitation. These rehabilitative centres are given financial support for providing shelter and basic amenities such as food, clothing, medical care, legal aid; education in the case the victims are children, as well as for undertaking vocational training and income generation activities to provide the victims with alternate livelihood option. It is implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.

Social Welfare Minister Nemcha was accompanied by the concern officials of the department during the inspection.
