Blast at Imphal Polo ground injures two AR Jawans

Imphal, February 5, 2018: Two Assam Rifles jawans were injured in a hand grenade blast that triggered at Imphal polo ground today at around 5: 30 pm.

The injured jawans were identified as Manbahadur Limbu, 38, son of late Limbu, resident of Sikkim, 31st national highway and Uttamkumar Pun, 52, son of late Nanda Bahadur of Saitual district, Aizawl, Mizoram. Both belong to 6 AR.

Manbahadur was injured at his right thigh and Uttamkumar was injured at both legs and right shoulder.

The injured were rushed to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.

Manipur Equestrian Association has condemned the grenade attack in a statement released this evening. It said conducting the violence act during the 15th Sentinel Cup and 9th Junior Equestrian Championship 2018 and while preparing for final and closing ceremony is a big fault from the attackers, it said.

Steering this violence while the people of state is endeavouring to save the Manipuri pony from extinction and promoting its games is very unfortunate, it added. The equestrian association appeals not to create trouble in the pony related events including Sagol Kangjei.

The equestrian association also shared its grief to the woes of the injured AR jawans.
