Chandel children leave for National Integration Tour

Pothashang News Service : Imphal, February 16, 2018: Children of Chandel district today left Imphal to participate in the National Integration Tour to Delhi and Agra organized by 4 Assam Rifles of HQ 28 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(S).

The tour was flagged off by Brig R K Singh, deputy IGAR(South) at the headquarter of IGAR (South) Mantripukhri.

The tour consist of 20 students (9 girls and 11 boys) with 2 teachers from St. Mary’s School and Government High School, Sajik Tampak, Standard English High School, Sugnu, St. Mary High School Churachandpur and MB Saichang UPS School, Shellon and a team of 4 AR under the command of Major KVS Raghuram OIC NIT and will visit various tourist and historical places in Delhi and Agra as part of the Civic Action Project undertaken by 4 Assam Rifles.

Major KVS Raghuram OIC NIT said the main aim of this national integration tour is to further the wholesome integration of the far flung regions of the North East with mainstream India through familiarising the selected young impressionable students from these areas with the technological advancements, political culture and historical appreciation of the country through this tour to Delhi and Agra. Additional broadening of horizon and vision amongst the participating students is also being envisioned, he added.

The students and members of the tour will interact with the President of India, Ramnath Kovind, Union home minister Rajnath Singh and Union sports minister retired Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and will also meet high ranking Army officials during the tour, added Raghuram.

To familiarise the students with the rich cultural heritage of India, the students will visit various tourist and historical places of Delhi and Agra including world renowned monuments like Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort etc. he added.

Raghuram said as the area of Sajik Tampak, Jhoupi and Shellon is a remote valley located in the southern portion of Chandel District.  The places lack basic amenities required in day to day life and the area is highly isolated from hinterland India.  Very few from the region had ventured beyond the valley itself and the tour will provide an exposure to the students of rich cultural heritage of our country and an opportunity to visit various places and interact with dignitaries. The tour will also imbibe national pride and develop feeling of patriotism from an early age and kindle ambition and dreams within the students to work in big cities.

This tour will be an eye opener for the students from Sajik Tampak, Jhoupi and Shellon as they will be aware of the vastness of the outside world, Raghuram asserted.
