20 students injured in road mishap at Senapati

Pothashang News Service : Imphal, February 23, 2018: At least twenty students of Don Bosco College Maram who were volunteering in poppy plantation destroying drive were injured.

The injured, 12 male and eight female students were rushed to 34 AR hospital, Maram and later referred to district hospital. Eleven of them were referred to JNIMS. Five of them were critically injured.

The incident happened at around 9:45 am yesterday and 27 student volunteers were there when the incident occured.

The drive was organised by the district administration led by P.P. RONALD SDO/SDM  Tadubi, along with village authority of Khongnem village led by Chairman Kangba.

The students were in a Sumo DI driving to Khongnem village, Tadubi subdivision for destroying poppy plants.They met the incident at Ramlung along NH-2.

Fifty students of the college were led by Solomon Siinamai and NPO representatives led by Sounii Khapa ,  Senapati Police team led by ASI Joykumar.

About 10 hectares of illegal poppy cultivation were destroyed at Khongnem village during the drive.
