Gold biscuits worth Rs 69 lakhs seized

Pothashang News Service : Imphal, February 27: The 12 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) apprehended two individuals carrying 14 gold biscuits (approximately 2.324 kgs) at PVCP, Khudengthabi yesterday.

At around 3:45 pm today, a silver colour Maruti van (MN01G 3002) travelling from Moreh to Imphal was stopped for checking at PVCP, Khudengthabi. On checking, gold biscuits were found hidden in various places – inside the shoes, inside the mobile phone in place of battery and attached to the buckle of the leather belt.

A total of 14 gold biscuits were recovered from the individuals. The approximate cost of the recovered gold is Rs 69,72,000. The apprehended individuals, Sabir Ahamed, 23 son of Md Turabali and Rafijuddin, 28 son of Md Hifijuddin, both residents of Lilong, Thoubal and the recovered gold have been handed over to Custom Preventive Force, Moreh, said a press statement released by IGAR (S).
