Ibobi expects disqualification of legislatures in Manipur

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 12, 2018: Former chief minister and Congress leader said Okram Ibobi said parliamentary secretaries in the Manipur Legislative Assembly can be disqualified for violation of 91st amendment act passed by Supreme Court.

He said 20 MLAs has been disqualified for violation of the Supreme Court directives. Ibobi was speaking to reporters his party office in Imphal on Sunday.

He said the laws in the nation are common to all the state. “I don’t believe that Manipur or any state would have a separate disqualification law. The 91st amendment to the Constitution limits the size of the council of ministers at the Centre and the states allowing not more than 15 per cent of the numbers in the Lok Sabha or the State Legislature.

In the previous term due to exemption of Supreme Court ruling there was no disqualification of parliamentary secretary in any state. But the legislatures in Delhi were disqualified with the amendment of the act, said Ibobi.

The present NDA governments implementing an act at backdoor many parliamentary secretaries were selected from their respective political parties. “The act will be effective in Manipur too”, said Ibobi.
