MTDC to develop bridges in Tamu-Kalewa region of Myanmar
Imphal, March 20, 2018 (DIPR): The Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Limited (MTDC) has been awarded the project for construction of 69 bridges in Myanmar.
Shri Joseph Pauline (IAS), Managing Director of MTDC during media interaction in the ongoing series of Press Conference of HODs organised by Directorate of Information and Public Relations at DIPR Complex, Moirangkhom stated that the current status of the project construction of 69 bridges in Myanmar is under DPR preparation stage.
The estimated cost of the above project, which is being funded by the Ministry of External Affairs (Govt of India) is Rupees 293.50 crores and is awarded under EPC mode. It may be mentioned that the construction of 69 bridges will take place over a stretch of 149.5 km from Tamukyigone to Kalewa. Out of these, 45 are major bridges, 22 are minor bridges and the remaining two are long span bridges (which are of above 120 metres length). The project will be a joint venture of the MTDC and Mumbai-based NCSL (Neeraj Cement Structural Construction Limited), which is an outsourced body for a better technical support.
The corporation has well-equipped manpower and has been providing quality-based constructions to its clients with no complaints so far, not even after the two major earthquakes that occurred in Manipur in the past few years. He added that the agency charges 11.75% of the total fund of a project, from which 8% goes to the state government and the remaining 3.75% has been utilised by the agency for its maintenance and salary fund for staff.
Shri Joseph Pauline also said that MTDC is an agency which is confined not only to the tribal areas of the state, but to the overall development of the state and the whole of the nation as well.
Shri Houreilung Gongmei, General Manager, MTDC presented the list of the 46 projects that had been or currently in process of construction by the agency. The total approved amount of these projects is Rs 720.13 crores, out of which almost half i.e Rs 346.89 crores has been sanctioned.
MTDC also provides consultancy services and execution of roads and bridges work in the North Eastern states. The current status of the works is under DPR Preparation phase and will be executed under the EPC mode funded by the NEC. The states covered will be Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. For Manipur state, the project is a 40 km-long stretch of road from Kamjong to Kongkam Thana.
The other mentionable projects are the completed B-Type School Building of KVS Bhakli Haryana (under KVS New Delhi fund), the work-in-progress construction of Terminal Building and associated works at Tezu Airport, Arunachal Pradesh (under the fund of AAI) and the Digital Planetarium at MSC Takyelpat, Imphal which was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri N Biren on March 5,2018.
MTDC is one of the pioneer corporations in the state of Manipur having been established in the year 1979 and is a state PSU functioning as the work agency of the state government and has been executing civil construction works of various department of the state government and the Central government.
