Gopal Sharma Award 2018 conferred to Airibam Chitreswar Sharma
Imphal, March 21, 2018 (DIPR): Hon’ble Minister ,CAF & PD, Revenue, Shri Karam Shyam shared that even though he himself is not a poet, he feels poetry is a living masterpiece that continues survival and existence even after it was written 1000-2000 years back. He expressed his appreciation for poetry underlyling the indepth philosophy and its mesmerising human appeal on the occasion of World Poetry Day that was observed today at Priyogopalsana Auditorium, Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy.
Renowned writer Aribam Chitreswar Sharma bagged the Gopal Sharma Award 2018 that was sponsored by Poknapham Daily Paper for his outstanding contribution in the field of literature. The award contains a momento, citation, shawl and a cash prize of Rs.10,000.
The event was organised by Sahitya Thoupang Lup, Imphal.
Poknapham, one of the leading dailies of Manipur, the name of which was given by Thangjam Ibopishak , is a very popular newspaper that includes interesting pages and columns like Nongmai Pandit and (To be or not to be ) Vox-populi article that indirectly grabs the minds of its readers to the truths contained in the topics of current relevance and social issues in a humorous way, Minister Karam Shyam said.
Talking on the role of media as an important element of education, he stated that a good reporter analyses a press conference in depth and writes by touching the positive deeper meanings of the matter & points under discussion. Positive as well as negative criticisms both are important in our society, he also assured.
As Manipur is in a conflict situation, we need to give adequate freedom to the press so that our State progresses and develops at a faster pace, he said.
We politicians count and benefits from points and ideas discussed by intellectuals & experts during media discussion hour programmes, he also said adding to continue doing the good work.
Minister Karam Shyam also convinced that the Government will have no objection if the literature lovers, Sahitya Lups & other writers’ forums of the State demand land allocation for constructing a proper meeting place in public interest.
He donated Rs.10,000 to Sahitya Thoupang Lup for encouraging their literary and intellectual activities.
Prof. Nongmaithem Tombi, ex-President, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, who was president of the function, said that a small research on knowing the perception of Manipur by people in other States of the country would prove fruitful & added that celebrating birth anniversaries of newspapers by including discussion on National or local issues will be a great social service.
